1 bottle red wine
60 g superfine sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
grated nutmeg
6 cardamom pods, crushed
1 orange, halved
60 ml gin
60 ml Amaretto
100 g raisins
Put the wine in a saucepan with the orange, sugar and the spices. Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved. Taste to decide if you want the wine sweeter, and add more sugar to taste.
Off the heat, stir in the gin, Amaretto and raisins. Strain into heatproof glasses and serve at once. Garnish with a lemon rind.
